Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Review
We’ve got to say it – Watch out Toyota Fortuna, the Pajero Sport is coming for you! We’ve never had the opportunity to review such a refined SUV, one which is a great allrounder and brilliant at anything you ask it to do. Everything from its off-road ability and engine power to its fuel economy and build quality simply screams “I am the best!” which is why we cannot sing this vehicles praises enough. And no, even if you think were being a little melodramatic we assure you that this is not the case. This is why…
It is a macho looking SUV
This is not your mom’s SUV (although it does make an excellent family vehicle due to its size, comfort and safety), and it looks the part of a mean off-roader. Just glance at the front and side views to see what we mean, because this is one mean looking vehicle that puts lesser Sports Utility Vehicles to shame.
Inside the Pajero Sport, although it is still rather masculine in many ways, it is more refined than the outside styling. In fact it is utterly opulent in many ways thanks the leather seating, which comes as standard, and the fully trimmed leather interior (including the Multi-function Steering Wheel) which all round off the luxurious look and feel of the cabin interior.
Epic off-road capabilities
The Pajero Sport is in our opinion the best SUV currently sold in South Africa, and this is not just because of its many family friendly features. As safe and comfortable to drive as it is, the Pajero Sport is one serious off-road vehicle. It comes standard with Mitsubishi’s rally-proven Super Select II 4WD System (not in the 4×2 version obviously), which ensures that even the most rugged South African conditions and the most brutal off-road terrain can be conquered.
Powerful yet efficient
Right from the onset you’ll realise that the 2.4-litre turbodiesel that powers both the 2.4L DI-DC 8-speed A/T 4X2 Pajero Sport and the 2.4L DI-DC 8-speed A/T 4X4 Pajero Sport is a singularly impressive engine that punches above its size. This is further enhanced by just how good the 8-speed automatic transmission is, as it effortlessly controls the Pajero Sport across any terrain you wish to attack. And attack the terrain is exactly what is does, as it eats up the road, dirt tracks and steep inclines effortlessly in its quest to get you from point A to point Z no matter what.
It handles very, very well
Probably the greatest thing that many South African drivers will find when they get behind the wheel of a new Pajero Sport, is the fact that it handles extremely well for a big car. It strikes the perfect balance between a “go anywhere” off-roader and a family friendly “pop down to the shops” daily drive. Overall it delivers a comfortable ride on all types of road surfaces, while also having noticeably quiet ride characteristics (which makes the cabin surprisingly free from excess road noise).
It is priced right
When you compare it to the Toyota Fortuna and the Ford Everest against which it directly competes we think that the Pajero Sport is a clear winner. It has stakes of comfort and safety features, and it is surprisingly affordable to boot. Take a look at our current Group 1 Mitsubishi Pajero Sports Prices at the top of this page for more information, or simply pop over to our Promotions and Specials Page to see if the Pajero Sport is currently available at an even lower than normal price.
