The beloved Mitsubishi ASX compact SUV is no longer in production in South Africa. For over a decade, the ASX was a favourite among drivers who wanted the best of both worlds — the practicality and elevated ride height of an SUV, combined with the manoeuvrability and efficiency of a smaller vehicle. Its sleek styling, comfortable interior, and proven reliability made it a popular choice for urban commuters, young families, and adventure-seekers alike.
While we know this is disappointing for fans of its city-friendly size, easy handling, and dependable performance, the good news is that there are still a few great options available to you.

Mitsubishi ASX Review
The New Mitsubishi ASX is a classic crossover vehicle that is aimed at urban drivers and families in need of an affordable, reliable, safe and spacious vehicle that can handle small city roads and the occasional dirt track. In our opinion Mitsubishi have hit that mark squarely in the bullseye, as the latest ASX is possibly one of the best urban orientated cars we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. This vehicle most certainly does not suffer from the identity crisis that is so inherent in the the crossover class, and although it has a certain amount of SUV sensibilities this is a vehicle that provides a down-to-earth driving style that is perfectly at home in the city, in the suburbs and even on the open road.
In a world where crossover and SUV vehicle designs are starting to look more and more alike, the ASX stands out from the pack. It has the rugged looks of its Mitsubishi SUV cousins, but it also has a refined style that is uniquely its own. Although practical by nature there is is a certain element of showmanship that is evident in the ASX, and this is plain to see in its eye catching frontal styling, chrome accents, LED lighting, visible front fog lights and stylised rear end with contrasting lower apron.
Big on Interior Space and Features
With a boot space of 442 litres (which can be increased to a massive 1193 litres when folding the rear seats forward) it is easy to see why this crossover is such a big hit with family drivers. Add to this a host of comfort features, most of which are standard across the entire range, and you’ve got a vehicle that can carry people across the urban landscape in comfort and with ease. It also has chrome and leather bound interior features which add a degree of sophistication to the atmosphere within the cabin, all of which are enhanced by the ASX’s full-length panoramic roof which was standard in the GLS model which we tested. The ASX GL models all have cloth seats while the GLS and GLX both have leather upholstery, both of which are of the highest quality and are attractive to the eye of anyone in the cabin.
High Specs Across the Entire Range
Every model in the ASX range comes standard with an electrically adjustable driver’s chair, rear park-distance control (please note that only the GLS variant includes a rear view camera), HID headlamps, air-conditioning (climate control in the GLS and GLX trim levels) and electric folding mirrors.
These high specs also include numerous safety features, all of which have contributed to the impressive 5 Star ANCAP Safety Rating which was awarded to the ASX. These features include 7-airbags, ABS and EBD and whiplash reduction seats. Additionally the GLS models have active stability control, traction control and hill start assist.
Mitsubishi ASX Fuel Consumption*
With a 63 Litre Fuel Tank capacity across the entire ASX range, and an impressive 7.5L per 100km** Fuel Consumption in the 5-speed manual transmission Mitsubishi ASX and 7.4L per 100km** Fuel Consumption in the 6-speed CVT Mitsubishi ASX, this is one of the most fuel frugal Mitsubishi vehicles available in South Africa.
